Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the macrolides group that in low
concentration acts bacteriostatically and in high concentration has a bactericidal effect
against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms like Ornithobacterium
rhinotracheale, Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Actinomyces spp., Corynebacterium
spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, as well as against Mycoplasmas
(Mycoplasma spp.).
The mechanism of product action is to inhibit protein synthesis in the bacterial cell by
binding to 50S-ribosomal subunits.
